Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, emphasized that criticism and input from members of the press were very important to encourage the central and regional governments to work on the same frequency.
This was conveyed by the President in his remarks while attending the National Press Day Commemoration Peak event, via video conference, from the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java, Wednesday.
“Criticism, input and support from members of the press are very, very important,” said the President.
The Head of State said that as one of the largest democracies in the world, Indonesia places press freedom as an important pillar of the nation’s progress.
The President emphasized that press freedom and protection of the journalist profession are guaranteed by law.
He conveyed criticism and input from important members of the press so that all levels of the government work on the same frequency.
“Remembering if someone reminds, if there is something lacking that needs to be improved, encourage those that are still slow and also appreciate what has been going well, so that all levels of government from the center to the regions and villages work with the same frequency, the same vision for our country. , for Indonesia to progress,” he explained.
On this occasion, the President on behalf of the people, nation and state conveyed a happy National Press Day to all press personnel in Indonesia, wherever they are.
The President also thanked the journalists, because even though they are in a pandemic situation, press continue to work to convey information, improve literacy, build optimism and build hope, so that people remain resilient in facing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. (mhn/bbs)
