Semarang, The Indonesia Post – Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Zainudin Amali said that the absence of a major national sports design so far has caused Indonesia’s sports achievements to be achieved by accident or “by accident”.
“From the results of coordination and discussions with stakeholders in the field of sports, it is concluded that so far our sport has not been designed. We can achieve sports achievements by accident,” said the Minister of Youth and Sports in a scientific oration when receiving the title of Honorary Professor of Sports Science from the State University of Semarang in Semarang, Saturday.
He said that Indonesia’s sports achievements were created when someone who was talented was found and then fostered.
“But we forgot to prepare the layer underneath,” he added.
Therefore, he said, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has drawn up a grand design for national sports because there are no shortcuts in achieving achievements.
He explained that the long-term coaching of athletes in an effort to produce world achievements is a long-term investment.
In the grand design of national sports, he said, the 2044 Olympics is the main goal that must be achieved.
Indonesia is targeting fifth place at the 2044 Olympics.
Therefore, he continued, the determination of sports must be focused on those who have the potential to win a gold medal.
He said, there are 14 leading sports that will be the focus of its development.
In achieving the target in the grand design of the national sport, various problems currently being faced must be resolved.
The grand design of national sports, he said, became a guide for the central and regional governments, as well as stakeholders in the world of sports in the implementation of national sports.
“Thus, national sports development is expected to be effective, efficient, superior, measurable, accountable, systematic, and sustainable,” he said. (mhn/ojn/bbs)
