Palembang, The Indonesia Post – The Palembang City Government, in collaboration with the Palembang City Council / Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), held a Special Plenary Session to commemorate the 1342nd anniversary of the City of Palembang at the Palembang City DPRD Plenary Meeting Room on Tuesday (June 17). The event was conducted in a solemn atmosphere and was attended by representatives from the central and regional governments, members of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), community leaders, academics, and various segments of the public.

This year’s anniversary celebration carries the theme “Empowered, Cultured, and Globally-Oriented Palembang” (*Palembang Berdaya, Berbudaya, Mendunia*). This reflects a collective commitment to fostering sustainable development, enhancing regional competitiveness, preserving cultural values, and strengthening Palembang’s position as a city capable of competing on both national and international stages.

In his remarks, the Speaker of the Palembang City DPRD noted that a history spanning over 13 centuries serves as a legacy that should inspire the continued development of the city—driven by a spirit of togetherness, collaboration, and innovation.

“The anniversary of Palembang is not merely an annual ceremony; it is a reflection on our long journey of development and a testament to the commitment of all stakeholders to provide ever-improving public services for the community,” he stated.

Through its legislative, budgetary, and oversight functions, the Palembang City DPRD reaffirmed its commitment to working in synergy with the Palembang City Government to ensure that development initiatives prioritize the public interest—ranging from improvements in infrastructure, education, and healthcare to the strengthening of the grassroots economy.
