Balige, The Indonesia Post – Thani Al-Qemzi from the Abu Dhabi Team scored excellent results in the extra free practice session of the first round of the F1 Powerboat World Championship (F1H2O) in the waters of Lake Toba, Muliaraja Napitupulu Harbor area, Balige, North Sumatra, Friday.
He recorded the fastest time on lap 15 with 1 minute 06.75 seconds. This result places Al-Qemzi in first place out of 16 racers who made their debut in the world’s largest volcanic lake.
This result became the initial capital before the racer who was born on December 23, 1978 to carry out the qualifying session on Saturday (25/2) and the race one day after.
While the racer with the second best time record was Erik Stark from the Victory Team, who on the eighth lap recorded a time of 1 minute 08.00 seconds
Then Jonas Andersson who represented Team Sweden was in third place when bulldozing the fifth lap with a time of 1 minute 09.17 seconds. Fourth is Cedric Deguisne from Maverick Racing who recorded the fastest time of 1 minute 10.08 seconds on the ninth lap.
Last season’s world champion Shaun Torrente from Team Abu Dhabi became the fifth racer with the best record time on the seventh lap with 1 minute, 11.67 seconds.
The extra free practice session was attended by 16 of the total 20 drivers who competed in the first round of F1H2O. Ferdinand Zandbergen (Team Sharjah) and Duarte Benavente (F1 Atlantic) only covered the track for 2.2 km for one lap. Meanwhile, Marit Stromoy (Stromoy Racing F1H2O) and CTIC China Team representative Peter Morin did not take part in the session.
