Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – SOE Minister Erick Thohir revealed that the market operations carried out by SOEs were an effort to keep the prices of nine basic commodities or groceries stable.
“We will continue to push for the operation of the basic food market so that the price of basic necessities does not fluctuate. I just received data that world food prices have risen 14 percent. That is the highest in history. This means that we must jointly intervene and overcome things like this,” said Erick. Thohir in a statement received in Jakarta, Sunday.
SOEs are again aggressively conducting basic needs market operations in various regions as a form of mitigation against the risk of deteriorating prices of basic necessities.
Erick Thohir emphasized that the market operation was a form of BUMN’s quick response so that basic food prices were stable and did not fluctuate.
Previously, Erick revealed that SOEs were ready to become standby buyers (off takers) of staple foods in order to anticipate next year’s crisis. However, the condition is that it needs to be accompanied by a clear assignment from the government to SOEs implementing the off taker function.
This assignment is necessary so that the leaders in SOEs implementing off takers have no doubts and are worried about the alleged violations that have been accused of them.
The role of SOEs in food security is a form of anticipation to reduce food prices. The high potential for inflation next year can be caused by two sources, namely the high price of fuel oil (BBM) and soaring food prices.
Global supply chain conditions are expected to continue to be disrupted next year. Because of that one of the keys to survive, he said, Indonesia must be able to maintain the condition of the national food supply chain. For this reason, SOEs are ready to participate in maintaining national food security. (mhn/bbs)
