Medan, The Indonesia Post – Indonesian women’s doubles champion Lanny Tria Mayasari/Ribka Sugiarto proved their class by emerging as champions of the 2023 Indonesia Masters badminton tournament.
In the match which was held at GOR PBSI Jalan Pancing, Medan, North Sumatra, Sunday afternoon, the pair ranked 30th in the world won with a score of 22-20, 21-10 over Taiwanese representatives Chang Ching Hui/Yang Ching Tun.
In the first game, Lanny/Ribka almost lost momentum when they were far ahead until the end of the match but their opponents started to catch up. Luckily Lanny/Ribka’s focus was able to return so they finally won the first game.
In the second game, Lanny/Rebekah’s game gained the upper hand considering that their opponents were playing under pressure. The roar of the fans who packed GOR Pancing put pressure on the opponents so that Lanny/Ribka ended the match with a straight game win in 39 minutes.
“In the first game we played in a hurry to win the match. “Luckily at the end of the match we were able to control the match and gain the lead,” said Lanny.
“In the second game we had the upper hand and had high confidence. “This made us play more calmly and confidently to end the match with a win,” said Rebekah.
Victory in the BWF Tour Super 100 tournament is actually a solace after not being able to do much at the 2023 World Championship.
Recorded in Copenhagen, Lanny/Ribka lifted their suitcases in the top 32 after losing badly to Chinese women’s doubles Chen Qing Chen/Jia Yi Fan with a score of 5-21, 8-21.
“In this tournament, we had doubts about becoming champions considering that we didn’t play optimally in the last tournament. “There was a feeling of worry about whether we would win or not, but we tried to believe one by one that we could finally become champions,” added Lanny.
The title of champion in the BNI Indonesia Masters 2023 tournament was Lanny/Ribka’s third title when they were paired. Previously, Lanny/Ribka were recorded as having won the 2022 Indonesia International Challenge in Malang and the 2022 Bahrain International Challenge.
“This title is very important for us to compete at a higher level. “So far, this title is a form of restoring our confidence and we really enjoy it,” said Rebekah. (mhn/bbs)
