Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – The government urges the public to celebrate Chinese New Year on February 1 in a simple manner by implementing strict health protocols (prokes) to prevent the transmission of COVID-19.
“We hope that the Chinese New Year celebrations on February 1, 2022 can run safely for all. Therefore, the government asks Confucians who celebrate Chinese New Year to keep it simple, continue to enforce the prokes, and avoid crowds,” said Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Johnny G. Plate in a press release on Monday.
Johnny appealed to the public not to go home and limit gatherings in large numbers to minimize the potential for transmission of the virus.
“Without reducing the importance of this celebration, let’s celebrate Chinese New Year with our families at home to reduce the risk of transmission. This is because the COVID-19 virus is still around us, marked by the increasing daily confirmed cases,” he continued.
It is known, the Ministry of Religion has issued the Minister of Religion Circular (SE) No. 2/2022 regarding guidelines for implementing health protocols at the 2573 Kongzili Chinese New Year celebrations on Tuesday (25/1).
In order to protect the public from COVID-19, there are restrictions for worship at the temple. Chinese New Year celebration activities must be coordinated with the COVID-19 Task Force in their respective environments and local security elements, in order to know the zoning status and to prepare supervisors for the implementation of health protocols.
“This is the second year we celebrate Chinese New Year in a pandemic situation. We believe the public already knows how best to carry out the big day safely. During celebrations, always obey health protocols, wear masks, keep your distance, and wash your hands,” said Johnny.
In addition, Johnny also appealed to the public to prioritize various activities for others by helping people in need.
“Hopefully with this spirit, the Chinese New Year can bring new hope, new luck, make Indonesia a healthier and full of unity spirit,” he concluded. (mhn/bbs)
