Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Indonesian Vice President Ma’ruf Amin urged the United Nations to immediately take steps to stop the war in Palestine.
“We are calling through this forum for the war in Palestine to stop, not to continue. Agree? So that the UN immediately takes steps to stop the war in Palestine,” said the Vice President in his speech at the Pledge for Weaving the Diversity of the Archipelago at the North Sumatra Provincial Government’s Multipurpose Gymnasium, Deli Serdang, North Sumatra , Thursday.
The Vice President assessed that the war and the Israeli army’s attacks on Palestine had killed many people, destroyed buildings, and starvation had made human life tragic.
He considered Palestinian independence from Israel to be something that must be fought for together and continuously.
Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi attended and spoke at the Extraordinary Meeting of OIC Foreign Ministers in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Wednesday (18/10).
He hopes that Indonesia can speak out to stop the war and mass murder of Palestinians through UN forums and meetings of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Apart from that, peace between the two countries could provide space for the entry of humanitarian aid.
“If it’s a war, people don’t dare to take it, we hope that aid can come in because it must be stopped, it must be determined,” said Ma’ruf.
In a meeting with the OIC Foreign Ministers, Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi urged the OIC to send a strong message and mobilize international support in overcoming the worsening conflict situation in Gaza.
Then, Indonesia asked the OIC to urge all relevant parties to create a humanitarian corridor in Gaza, and ensure that international humanitarian law is respected. (mhn/bbs)
