Acting Governor Fatoni Hands Over 5,000 Chili Seeds Ready to Plant to Schools

Palembang, The Indonesia Post – In order to prevent and handle inflation in South Sumatra, Acting. South Sumatra Governor Agus Fatoni launched the South Sumatra Independent Food Movement (GSMP) Goes to School and GSMP Goes to Office simultaneously throughout South Sumatra. Taking place at Jakabaring Sport City Palembang, Sunday, 25/2/2024).

The launch was marked by Fatoni symbolically handing over 5,000 chili seeds ready for planting to SMA/SMK in South Sumatra which had been designated as the pilot project for the launching activity.

“Activities are carried out so that schools and offices can utilize empty land locations to plant basic needs crops, so that South Sumatra is truly food independent and supports programs to handle and prevent inflation in South Sumatra, so that it can eradicate the rate of Extreme Poverty in South Sumatra.

“It is hoped that after this, schools and offices can continue to invest and make an impact in realizing South Sumatra’s Food Independence and ending the extreme poverty rate in South Sumatra,” he said.

Apart from that, Fatoni also invited the students who attended to publish as many launching activities as possible on social media so that other schools in South Sumatra can know about and carry out them. Fatoni also expressed his gratitude for the seed assistance from Bank Indonesia (BI) South Sumatra Representative.

Head of BI South Sumatra Representative, Ricky P Gozali explained that from several high school/vocational school schools that have been selected as pilot projects in the GSMP Goes To School Program, BI South Sumatra will later hold competitions and assessments of these schools as a form of appreciation for schools that have successfully implemented the program. Head of the National Food Agency’s Food Data and Information Center, Dr. Kelik, S.Si., M. Kom hopes that the program that has just been launched can be synergized with the programs owned by the National Food Agency in the context of preventing and handling inflation in Indonesia.
