South Sumatra Governor and Pegadaian Strengthen Collaboration to Empower Young Entrepreneurs Through ‘Sultan Muda’ Program

Palembang, The Indonesia Post — Governor of South Sumatra, H. Herman Deru, received a courtesy visit from the Regional Chief Executive Officer of PT Pegadaian Regional Office III for Southern Sumatra (Sumbagsel), Novryandi, to discuss collaboration on empowering young entrepreneurs through the Sultan Muda program initiated by the South Sumatra Provincial Government. The meeting took place at the Governor’s Reception Room on Monday (October 13, 2025).

During the discussion, Governor Deru emphasized that the early stage for beginner entrepreneurs is a crucial phase of character and foundation building. He encouraged young business owners to recognize this formative stage as essential to their long-term growth.

“If they are aware of this, they will protect their character. Poor behavior in business — such as avoiding responsibility — will only hinder their progress,” said Deru.

The Governor explained that the Sultan Muda program was established in response to the vast potential in entrepreneurship as a driver of job creation and economic growth.

“In this initiative, the provincial government not only provides a platform but also channels support — not merely in terms of capital, but also skills development and market access,” he added.

Deru further urged that the Sultan Muda program be strengthened through concrete actions and measurable data collection.

“Our target of creating 100,000 entrepreneurs is not a big number. We are not starting from zero — many already meet the criteria, not only in Palembang but across South Sumatra,” he remarked.

He also noted that the provincial government acts as a bridge between Pegadaian and the community, while helping reshape public perceptions of Pegadaian in a more positive light.

Also present at the meeting were several heads of provincial departments (OPD) and representatives from PT Pegadaian Regional Office III Sumbagsel. (mhn/ril)
