Jakarta, TheIndonesiaPost – The world of education is one of the central sectors which has also been affected by the current covid-19 epidemic. Therefore, South Sumatra Governor H Herman Deru continues to encourage education to continue even in the midst of this pandemic.
One of them is by continuing to run free school programs. Including giving single tuition (UKT) relief for two semesters to students both in South Sumatra and abroad such as in Cairo and Sudan.
“But in South Sumatra, we are not worried because the free school program, especially for the high school level which is under the auspices of the Provincial Government, is still ongoing. Fortunately for students, we also provide assistance for UKT relief for two semesters. , interrupted by the opening of the 2020 education online seminar from the South Sumatra Provincial Secretariat Regional Command Center, Tuesday (7/21).
According to him until now, the South Sumatra Provincial Government remains consistent with the free school program. In fact, it is known, the South Sumatra Provincial Government itself has provided assistance of Rp 700 thousand for one student, especially the high school level.
“We should not be complacent, children still have to be educated. Regarding the reduction in school fees, we provide through the free school. The basic costs are certainly borne by the government. For high schools we give Rp 700 thousand per year to one student,” he explained.
On that occasion, he also asked the education provider not to set fees that are burdensome to the guardians or parents of students. Especially in the hills like now.
“For state schools, I instruct not to charge fees outside the rules and regulations,” he stressed.
He further said, education for children absolutely must be given early. For this reason, synergy and innovation from all parties, especially educators, are needed so that teaching and learning activities do not decrease due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
“We should not be complacent, children must still be able to get an education. Innovations must be made so that learning activities continue to run. Including the concept of learning from home via online which is currently being carried out,” he said.
Even so, Herman Deru did not deny the concept of learning from home or from a distance it had constraints so that the activity was not maximally carried out.
“Maybe there are still obstacles in the application of learning from homes such as lack of technological facilities owned by students or guardians, lack of public awareness of the concept, or lack of expertise of educators in the use of IT. We are still trying to prevent these problems from happening in the future,” he explained.
“With this seminar, I hope that new ideas, thoughts, and ideas will be born so that they can be used as references by the South Sumatra provincial government in applying the best learning system that must be applied in this new normal era,” he concluded. (mhn/rel)
