Erick Thohir reminds public that the Pandemic is not over

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – SOE Minister Erick Thohir reminded the public that the pandemic was not over and asked for the community’s support and active participation in fighting the spread of COVID-19.

“I remind you that this pandemic is not over. Currently, red zone status appears in various districts as well as provincial capitals. Even though maximum efforts have been and continue to be made by the government, it must receive support and active participation from the community,” said Erick Thohir in an official statement received in Jakarta, Saturday.

Erick added that the BUMN Joint Vaccination Center, which began to be held in Medan, North Sumatra, Saturday, is targeted to be able to change the status of the city and the North Sumatra region into a safer zone in the midst of this pandemic.

Currently, Medan and several provincial capitals have returned to the red zone status of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I want this vaccination center in Medan to have a positive response from the residents of North Sumatra so that they want to be vaccinated, so that the city is in a safe zone. This vaccine center is open to anyone who has not been vaccinated,” said the Minister of SOEs.

Based on data from covid19.sumutprov.go.id/, the status of Medan City, which has a population of 2.43 million people or 16.46 percent of the entire population of North Sumatra, is in the red zone with the addition of cases of more than 30 people every day.

In addition, the percentage coverage of the number of residents of North Sumatra who have undergone vaccination is still low.

The coverage of the first dose of vaccine in North Sumatra is ranked 20th nationally with 40.23 percent, while for the second dose of vaccine it is only 21.58 percent or 23rd nationally.

“The vaccination center in Medan is targeted at 5,000 people per day. I’m sure it can be achieved because people from all walks of life can be vaccinated here in pursuit of acceleration. I ask that everyone be more disciplined in carrying out the 3 M. Hopefully this effort will be facilitated by the Almighty so that we can get through this pandemic, “said Erick Thohir.

To serve the vaccination center at the ex-airport location, the Ministry of SOEs deployed 250 health workers coordinated by Pertamina Hospital Pangkalan Berandan and involved health service centers in Medan such as the Glugur Darat Health Center, Tegal Sari, Tuntungan, Simalingkar, and Falls.
