Taipei, The Indonesia Post – An earthquake measuring 5.2 struck near the eastern Taiwanese city of Hualien on Monday, the local meteorological agency said.
There have been no immediate reports of damage from the earthquake.
The quake, which was at a depth of 30.2 km, shook several buildings in the capital Taipei and the tremors could be felt throughout northern and eastern Taiwan, the agency said.
Taiwan is located at the junction of two tectonic plates in the South China Sea, making it prone to earthquakes.
More than 100 people died in an earthquake in southern Taiwan in 2016, while a massive 7.3 magnitude earthquake in 1999 claimed more than 2,000 lives. (ojn/bbs)
