Women in Xian miscarry due to PCR, hospital stocks plummet

Beijing, The Indonesia Post – A woman miscarried because of a PCR test in Xian, Shaanxi Province, an area in China that has been under lockdown since late December 2021.

The case affected the stock price of the hospital where the pregnant woman was treated.

The Xian City Government on its official WeChat account circulating in local media, Friday, explained that the woman who was eight months pregnant was rejected by the Gaoxin Hospital because the PCR test results were four hours late.

At that time, the woman was experiencing pain in the stomach.

The woman was finally admitted to the operating room two hours later after doctors noticed the patient’s condition had worsened — leading to a miscarriage.

Gaoxin Hospital General Manager Fan Yuhui was fired and several of the staff who were on duty at the time were removed from their positions.

Xian City Health Commission Director Liu Shunzhi through a press conference on Thursday (6/1) apologized to the victims and the public regarding the incident.

“On behalf of the health commission, I apologize profusely to patients for the poor medical care for special groups,” he was quoted by Chinese media as saying.

Director of the Xian Li Qiang Emergency Center and Liu received a stern warning from the Chinese Communist Party (CPC).

Sales of shares of Xian International Medical Investment Co, which is the parent of Gaoxin Hospital, on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange fell eight percent at the close Wednesday (5/1) and fell 4.81 percent on Thursday (6/1).

In two consecutive days, the company’s sales value reportedly fell to 3.3 billion yuan, or around Rp. 7.4 trillion as a result of the neglect of pregnant patients.

The Xian Health Commission ordered the hospital to immediately handle postoperative rehabilitation and compensate patients.

Xian has been under lockdown since December 29, 2021 after finding positive cases of COVID-19 in hundreds of local residents. (ojn/bbs).
