Manado, TheIndonesiaPost – Tuminting Prison, Manado, North Sulawesi was on fire late Saturday (11/4). No prisoners were reported escape, but the fire caused a lot of damage in some sectors of the prison. Some of the windows were broken and the fire were seen in the building.
The police had the situation under controlled finally. But before that, the tension was very strong. Some police carrying heavy guns was reported entering the prison. While the prisoners refused to negotiate.
Head of the Public Relations and Cooperation Bureau of Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Bambang Wiyono as reported by CNN said, the riot was derived by the demands of some narcotics prisoners tobe released based on Minister of Justice and Human Rights Regulations Number 10/2020.
In fact, that was not the only reason. Another source also mentioned that, Corrona Virus was also one of the cause of the riot. The Prison warden had refused a permission to mourn which apply by one of the prisoner. The prison warden was afraid that the cause of the death of the prisoner parent due to corona virus.
“For now, there were no escaping prisoners. The police are stand by for protection,” said Bambang. (Rama/BBS).
