Palembang, The Indonesia Post — South Sumatra Governor H. Herman Deru officially launched the Food Independence Local Content Program (Mulok) for high schools (SMA) and vocational schools (SMK) across South Sumatra. The event took place at the Novotel Hotel in Palembang on Thursday (October 23, 2025).
In his remarks, Governor HD explained that this program is a concrete step towards developing a young generation that is not only good at studying, but also capable of creating real solutions in the food sector.
“This is one way we can educate the next generation to become not just consumers but also food producers. This is crucial for future sustainability,” said Herman Deru.
He continued, explaining that the program, which was launched in 2021, focuses not only on one type of food but also on changing the mindset of the younger generation to be more concerned with agriculture, animal husbandry, and environmental sustainability.
“I hope this doesn’t stop at just ceremonies. Increase public awareness and practical implementation of food self-sufficiency. We must all be responsible for ensuring its implementation on the ground. Let’s work together to evaluate and monitor its implementation in schools,” the Governor urged.
Acting Head of the South Sumatra Provincial Education Office, Mondiaboni, added that his office will collaborate with ICRAF (World Agroforestry) to implement food self-sufficiency training and programs in 997 high schools and vocational schools across South Sumatra. (mhn/ril)
