Palembang, The Indonesia Post — South Sumatra Governor H. Herman Deru officially opened the 2025 Spice Festival, organized by the South Sumatra Province Family Welfare Movement (PKK). The three-day event, from October 24 to 26, 2025, served as a platform to introduce and celebrate the richness of spices from various regions of the Land of Sriwijaya. The event took place at the PTC Mall on Friday (October 24, 2025).

In his remarks, Governor Herman Deru expressed his appreciation and pride for the festival. He emphasized that spices are not only part of the cultural heritage but also offer significant economic potential for the people of South Sumatra.

“The 2025 Spice Festival is a momentum for the regents and mayors of South Sumatra to become more aware of our rich spice heritage. We must make our region a producer and driver of spice commodities. Spices offer numerous benefits, both for domestic consumption and as a superior product that can attract international markets,” said the Governor.

Herman Deru also invited the entire community to love and empower South Sumatra’s natural wealth more.

“Let’s utilize our abundant resources. Don’t let this wealth go unused. Spices aren’t just about taste, but also regional identity and economic opportunities,” he added.

Meanwhile, Feby Deru, Chairperson of the South Sumatra Family Welfare Movement (TP PKK), stated on the same occasion that the Spice Festival is not merely an exhibition, but a tangible expression of pride in South Sumatran produce. (mhn/ril)
