Palembang, The Indonesia Post – Governor of South Sumatra H. Herman Deru expressed his gratitude and appreciation for South Sumatra’s achievement in placing second nationally in the assessment of Islamic boarding school educational institutions.
According to him, this achievement is clear evidence that Islamic boarding schools in South Sumatra have played an active role and are recognized in the national formal education system.
“Being number two nationally means we have surpassed many other large provinces, including those on Java. This proves that our Islamic boarding schools are well-known and recognized,” HD said during an audience with the South Sumatra Islamic Boarding School Forum in the Governor’s Meeting Room (Wednesday, October 29, 2025).
In this regard, he requested that this achievement be disseminated throughout all Islamic boarding schools in South Sumatra through publication and the installation of award banners.
“This award would not have been possible without the hard work of field officers and Islamic boarding school managers in each region, therefore I hope this can be published in every Islamic boarding school in South Sumatra,” HD emphasized.
HD further stated that Islamic boarding schools have now become part of formal education and should receive equal attention to other educational institutions. He also highlighted the importance of Regional School Operational Assistance (BOS) support for Islamic boarding schools that provide formal education, particularly at the Aliyah level.
“I hope that starting in 2026, Aliyah students’ data will be included for monthly assistance, on a per-student basis, by institution. This demonstrates the South Sumatra Provincial Government’s commitment to recognizing Islamic boarding schools as formal educational institutions,” he explained. (mhn/ril)
