Palembang, The Indonesia Post — Governor of South Sumatra, H. Herman Deru, inaugurated the Solar Power-Based Irrigation System (Pembangkit Listrik Tenaga Surya / PLTS Irigasi) in Matas and Tanjung Karangan villages, Tanjung Agung District, Muara Enim Regency, on Thursday (October 16, 2025). On the same occasion, the Governor also presented awards to the winners of the 2025 South Sumatra Provincial Village and Urban Community Competition.
The inauguration marked a significant milestone for the people of Muara Enim, as the PLTS Irrigation System represents a tangible innovation in renewable energy that directly benefits farmers. With this system, rice field irrigation no longer relies on conventional electricity but instead harnesses solar energy — efficient, sustainable, and environmentally friendly.
In his remarks, Governor Deru praised the Muara Enim Regency Government for its strong commitment to innovation and collaboration.
“Muara Enim is truly remarkable. Many innovations here are the result of synergy between local government, companies, and the community. Initiatives like this solar-powered irrigation system show that progress can begin from the village level,” said Deru.
He added that South Sumatra is the first province in Indonesia to pioneer the concept of “electricity entering the rice fields” through solar irrigation technology.
“In the past, irrigation relied on conventional power lines. Now, it can run entirely on solar energy. When used optimally, this will greatly support farmers and help South Sumatra maintain its status as one of the nation’s largest rice producers,” he explained.
Meanwhile, the Regent of Muara Enim expressed gratitude to the South Sumatra Provincial Government and Governor Deru for their continuous support and personal engagement despite a busy schedule. (mhn/ril)
