Palembang, The Indonesia Post – South Sumatra Governor H. Herman Deru attended the 5th Congress of the Student Executive Board (BEM)/Student Executive Council (DEMA) Forum of Islamic Higher Education Institutions (PTAI) throughout Indonesia. The event, themed “Consolidating the Movement to Safeguard Nationality and Diversity,” was held at the UIN Raden Fatah Palembang campus on Wednesday, October 29, 2025.
The event was also attended by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture (Wamentan) of the Republic of Indonesia, Sudaryono, B.Eng., MM, MBA., who acted as the keynote speaker.
Meanwhile, Indonesian Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sudaryono provided profound motivation to the students. He urged congress participants to remain persistent, to keep fighting, and to strive.
Herman Deru also touched on the agricultural sector. He hopes that UIN Raden Fatah Palembang will establish a Faculty of Agriculture in the future to provide real support and contributions to the agricultural sector.
Governor Herman Deru expressed pride in South Sumatra’s achievements in food security. “Thank God, South Sumatra has exceeded the national target for food security and become one of the nation’s food barns,” he said.
Concluding his remarks, the Governor hoped that the 5th Congress of the Indonesian BEM/DEMA PTAI Forum would be able to provide motivation and become a basis for thinking for students in the context of national development in the future.
Also in attendance were Palembang Mayor Drs. Ratu Dewa, M.Si., and other members of the Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda). (mhn/ril)
