Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno hopes that the creative economy sector can continue to develop because the opportunities are still wide open in Indonesia.
“Creative economic opportunities are still very open in Indonesia. Moreover, the government has also determined that the creative industry is the backbone of the country’s economy,” said Sandiaga from Lake Toba in a webinar, Tuesday.
Sandiaga said that creative industry players must continue to be creative with new innovations so that their products can compete. In addition to being innovative, creative industry players, including those from the MSME category, must also be good at adapting to situations and have a tough mentality to survive.
“If all of these can be owned by creative industry players, the creative economy will be able to grow and compete,” said Sandiaga.
Menparekraf also expressed his salute and respect for creative entrepreneurs in the fashion sub-sector who have succeeded in turning a crisis situation into an opportunity, even being able to help or support as many talents and workers as possible to survive and prosper in the midst of a crisis.
“I appreciate every profession in the fashion industry,” he said.
As of June 2021, the creative economy sector has contributed a gross domestic product (GDP) of IDR 1,100 trillion from 17 sub-sectors of the creative economy, which are dominated by fashion, culinary, and crafts.
The contribution of the creative economy sector to Indonesia’s GDP is the third largest in the world after the United States with Hollywood and South Korea with K-pop and drama series.
A total of 33.4 percent of creative economy actors in Indonesia come from the fashion sub-sector, including from small and medium industries, where the total reaches 2.5 million people.
The export value of the fashion sub-sector is also the largest, totaling US$15 million in 2019.
Small and Medium Industries (IKM) in the fashion sector themselves since 2019 have recorded a large contribution to (GDP) of 19.5 percent, an increase from the previous 5.4 percent.
With optimism that the fashion industry can compete in the global economy, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy also provides assistance through facilities that can encourage this sub-sector to become bigger.
The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy will issue policies to encourage the use of fashion works in the country, facilitate the availability of raw materials, to the promotion and support of domestic fashion products in the domestic and global markets. (rma/bbs)
