Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Member of Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) Andi Rio Idris Padjalangi asked the National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo to immediately increase the number of personnel to assist and secure the community affected by the eruption or hot clouds of Mount Semeru (3676 masl) in Lumajang, East Java.
“The National Police Chief must act quickly and proactively to help communities affected by the eruption of Mount Semeru, the National Police Chief must increase the number of personnel and place the Police Medical and Health Team (Dokkes),” said Andi Rio in his statement in Jakarta, Monday.
He also considered that if necessary, the Police would establish a public kitchen so that people would not want to evacuate for fear of losing their property.
Andi Rio hopes that the community will not carry out activities within a certain radius before notification of the safe status of Mount Semeru from the relevant authorities.
According to him, this is to maintain the safety of souls from the dangers of hot clouds falling from Mount Semeru which are still spitting out small materials.
“Police officers must be on guard at certain points, but still have to pay attention to the safety of souls. Don’t let people stay at home and don’t want to evacuate to a safe point,” he said.
The Deputy Chairperson of the House of Representatives’ Honorary Court (MKD) asked the National Police Chief along with other stakeholders and related parties to help each other and communicate and coordinate well in handling the natural disaster of Mount Semeru’s hot cloud.
According to him, this step is so that there is no overlap in carrying out their main tasks and functions to help people affected by the hot clouds of Mount Semeru avalanches.
“It must be handled quickly and on target, there should be no people who are starving and do not have clothes and proper refugee places, emergency tents or evacuation points must be appropriate. Don’t let the people who have evacuated feel uncomfortable and eventually return to their respective homes,” he said. (rmt/bbs)
