500 Film Crew Become Unemployed

Jakarta, TheIndonesiaPost – Covid-19 virus has affected many things including the world of film. Chairman of the Executive Board of the Indonesian Film Artists Association 56 (PB Parfi 56) Marcella Zalianty said the Indonesian film industry was one of the art sectors most affected by the coronavirus pandemic. According to him, there are currently around 500 film workers unemployed due to the impact of the pandemic.

“Let’s say in the first month, those 5 (film) productions are stopped. Automatic 500 jobless crew,” Marcella said in a joint press conference with BNPB, Saturday (4/16).

Marcella said, due to Corona, the filming process that had to gather a lot of people so it could not be done. Finally, the process of producing films that are ready to air must be stopped.

On the other hand, the film industry is also affected by upstream to downstream. The reason, a number of cinema networks in Indonesia are also still closed to support the government’s efforts regarding limiting social distance to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

“The cinema is closed, all productions that are ready for broadcast must stop,” he said as quoted by Cable News Network Indonesia.

Not to mention the average art worker there are still many non-formal workers, whose lives are fully into the world of art and film. So, due to corona, they lost their income.

Therefore, Marcella together with Parfi 56 and other artists briefly initiated the donation movement for arts workers. (ras/bbs)
