Jakarta, TheIndonesiaPost – Governor of East Java (East Java) Khofifah Indar Parawansa claimed to have her own reasons for allowing the Al Akbar National Mosque to hold congregational prayers, including the 1441 Hijriah Ied prayer.
Khofifah claimed to stick to the large-scale social restrictions (PSBB) she made. In the regulation, there was no prohibition on worship in the mosque during the coronavirus pandemic, including worship at Al Akbar Mosque, the largest mosque in the city of Surabaya. According to her, in the PSBB rules, there are only restrictions.
“In a position like this back to the actual governor’s regulation at the time of the PSBB, there was a process of restriction, I want to convey restrictions, not prohibitions, not terminations,” Khofifah said, quoted by Cable News Network Indonesia.
“Exceptions to restrictions on religious activities as referred to in paragraph (1) shall be carried out in accordance with statutory regulations, and fatwas or views of official religious institutions that are recognized by the government,” read Article 12 Pergub 21/2020.
Based on that, said Khofifah, the house of worship could hold activities such as congregational prayers or Ied prayers, based on the rules or fatwas of official religious institutions.
“So in the Governor’s Regulation, we also have an exit clause, following the Minister of Health’s Regulation (Permenkes), the Permenkes is given an exit clause, in certain clauses please consider opinions or religious leaders,” she said.
Khofifah claimed to have pocketed the opinions of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) of East Java, Muhammadiyah and the Regional Management of the Nahdlatul Ulama (PWNU) of East Java, to hold Ied prayers in congregation in the mosque.
“The matter of Eid prayer is actually a letter from MUI, a letter from Muhammadiyah, there is also from PWNU,” she said.
In addition to the proposal of the religious institution, Khofifah said it had also carried out a mapping of the area at risk of corona virus transmission.
“Now from this limitation process, let’s look at the high-risk points, and which points are still green. This map that knows also is the area, we have a map, if asked to display it every day we can,” she said.
Al Akbar Surabaya Mosque itself has a capacity of 59 thousand people. Building area and supporting facilities reach 22,300 square meters. This mosque is located in the Pagesangan Village, Jambangan District, Surabaya.
In the distribution map released by the Surabaya City Government, in the Pagesangan Village, there are currently 8 positive cases of coronavirus. While in all villages in Jambangan District there are currently 28 cases of corona virus-positive. (BBS)
