Russia attacks Ukrainian military base near Polish border

Lviv, The Indonesia Post – Russia launched an air strike on the Yavoriv military base in western Ukraine near the Polish border, local officials said Sunday.

The attack shows that Russia is now starting to target the western part of Ukraine.

“The invaders launched air strikes on the Center for International Peacekeeping and Security. According to preliminary data, they fired eight missiles,” Lviv’s military authority said in a statement.

The attack was carried out against a military unit of the facility, Ukrainian news agency Interfax said, citing Anton Mironovich, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Armed Forces Ground Forces Academy.

“According to preliminary data there were no fatalities, but information about the injured is being clarified,” Mironovich said.

The military training facility is the largest in western Ukraine and is usually a joint training ground with NATO. It is about 25 km from the Polish border.

The mayor of Ivano-Frankivsk, another city in western Ukraine, said Russian troops also continued to hit its airport on Sunday. No casualties have been reported yet. (mhn/bbs)
