Lviv, The Indonesia Post – The fourth phase of talks between Ukraine and Russia on Monday will focus on a ceasefire agreement, troop withdrawal and security guarantees for Ukraine, said one of the Ukrainian negotiators, Mykhailo Podolyak.
Ukraine’s position remains the same, namely that a ceasefire must be reached before talks on future relations can take place, he said in a post on social media and accompanied by a video.
“Negotiations. Fourth round. About peace, ceasefire, immediate troop withdrawal, and security guarantees. Tough discussions,” wrote Podolyak.
He added that he believed Russia “still harbors the illusion that 19 days of violence against (Ukraine) quiet towns is a surefire strategy.”
Russia denies allegations that its movement targets civilians.
The Kremlin, the office of the Russian president, described Russia’s actions as a “special operation” to free Ukraine from military rule and Nazi influence.
However, Ukraine and its Western allies called the move a baseless pretext for choosing war. (mhn/bbs)
