President Jokowi: Indonesia Condemns Violence And Forced Expulsion Of Palestinians By Israel

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Indonesian President Joko Widodo emphasized that Indonesia condemned the forced expulsion of Palestinians from Sheikh Jarrah, East Jerusalem.

President Jokowi made this assertion via the quoted Twitter account @jokowi, in Jakarta, Monday.

“The forced expulsion of Palestinians from Sheikh Jarrah, East Jerusalem, and the use of force against Palestinian civilians at the Al-Aqsa Mosque should not be ignored. Indonesia condemns these actions, “said President Jokowi.

The president said Indonesia urged the UN Security Council to take action on repeated violations committed by Israel.

The Head of State emphasized that Indonesia will continue to side with the Palestinian people.

As reported, Palestinians throwing stones and Israeli police firing stun grenades clashed outside the Al-Aqsa Mosque on Monday, in the ongoing violence in Jerusalem that raised international concern.

Tensions in the city were particularly high when Israel observed “Jerusalem Day,” the annual conquest of East Jerusalem, and the walled Old City, which is home to Muslim, Jewish and Christian holy sites, in the 1967 War.

Al-Aqsa, Islam’s third holiest site, has been a major hotspot for violence in Jerusalem at the height of the holy month of Ramadan.

In an effort to ease tensions, Israeli police said they had barred Jewish groups from making Jerusalem Day visits to the holy square that is home to the Al Aqsa Mosque.

Police are also considering whether to reroute the traditional Jerusalem Day parade – during which thousands of young Jews waving Israeli flags usually walk through the Old City’s Damascus Gates and Muslim areas. (jek/bbs)
