Jakarta, TheIndonesiaPost – In an effort to curb the spread of the coronavirus, US President Donald Trump asked Americans on Tuesday to wear masks if they could not maintain social distance from the people around them.
In his first briefing (21/7) focusing on the coronavirus pandemic in a few months, Trump told reporters at the White House that the virus might get worse before it gets better.
However, Trump is reluctant to wear his own mask in public. He wore one for the first time in public during a recent visit to a military hospital, but instead Trump avoided wearing a mask in front of the press.
As cases increased in states across the United States, including in politically important states such as Florida, Texas and Arizona, Trump changed his tone to try to control the number of cases.
“We ask everyone that when you cannot socially distance yourself, wear a mask, get a mask. “Whether you like the masks or not, they have an impact, they will have an impact, and we need everything we can get,” Trump said.
Trump said that he was accustomed to masks and would wear them himself in a crowd or while riding an elevator.
“I will use it, with pleasure,” he said. “Anything that can potentially help … is a good thing.”
The president also urged young Americans to avoid overcrowded bars where the virus could spread. (ojn/bbs)
