Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – A senior Chinese diplomat said on Sunday that the United States had damaged Beijing-Washington diplomatic ties and the White House must repair the damage.
Wang Yi, Director of the Office of the Chinese Foreign Affairs Central Commission, said this during an informal meeting with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.
In a statement on the Chinese Foreign Ministry website, Yi criticized Washington’s reaction to the Chinese blimp incident over US territory.
The former Chinese foreign minister said the US action of shooting down a Chinese balloon using a fighter jet was an abuse of force and a violation of international norms and conventions.
“What the US needs to do is show sincerity, acknowledge and repair the damage (relationships) caused by their abuse of power,” the statement said.
If the US continues to dramatize, exaggerate or escalate tensions, China will respond by taking the necessary measures, and all the consequences will be borne by the US, the statement said.
In his meeting with Blinken, Yi also touched on the Ukraine issue. According to him, Beijing remains committed to pushing for peace talks to end the war in Ukraine.
Beijing, he continued, did not accept US accusations linking China with Russia in the invasion of Ukraine.
“We have never accepted US accusations or coercion directed at China-Russia relations. The US, as a big country, should try to resolve the political crisis rather than escalating or escalating the situation,” he said.
In the statement, Wang Yi also resolutely rejected Taiwan independence in order to maintain stability in the Taiwan Strait.
He urged the US to respect historical facts, adhere to political commitments, and refrain from taking actions that support Taiwan independence. (mhn/bbs)
