Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – The chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, does not want any Indonesian citizens in Ukraine to become victims of the special military operation intensified by Russia.
Therefore, Puan asked the government to guarantee the safety and security of Indonesian citizens in Ukraine. In fact, Puan asked for an evacuation.
“Don’t let any Indonesian people get hurt in the conflict in Ukraine. The safety and security of Indonesian citizens must be a priority,” said Puan in her statement, Friday (2/25/22).
Citing a report from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs which noted that there were 138 Indonesian citizens in Ukraine, according to Puan, evacuation should be an option that was seriously considered.
“So the government, the Indonesian Embassy and all stakeholders must coordinate effectively if necessary to evacuate and bring all Indonesian citizens home as quickly and safely as possible,” said Puan.
Previously, the House of Representatives through Commission I urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to prepare evacuation steps for Indonesian citizens residing in Ukraine, as Russia launched a special military operation in Eastern Ukraine.
Meanwhile, the Chairperson of Commission I, Meutya Hafidz, emphasized that the government must really ensure the safety of Indonesian citizens. According to him, the safety of Indonesian citizens is the highest law that must be pursued seriously.
“Therefore, I ask the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a partner of our government to continue to monitor developments in Ukraine, especially regarding the condition and safety of our Indonesian citizens there, which of course must be the main priority of the Indonesian government,” Meutya told reporters, Friday (25/25). 2/2022).
Meutya said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs must ensure that Indonesian citizens in Ukraine are in a safe location. At least ensure that all Indonesian citizens are at the Indonesian Embassy in Kiev.
“I also urge the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to immediately prepare a plan related to the evacuation of our Indonesian citizens from Ukraine, considering the existing crisis could develop into a worse situation in a short time,” said Meutya.
“I also asked the Indonesian Embassy in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to draw up a contingency plan with the Indonesian Embassy in other cities such as Warsaw, Bratislava, Bucharest, and Moscow to provide protection for Indonesian citizens who were there,” continued Meutya.
Members of Commission I Sukamta also asked the government to do the same for the safety of Indonesian citizens in Ukraine. He said the Indonesian government must prioritize the safety and security of Indonesian citizens in Ukraine.
“With the deteriorating situation in Ukraine, there needs to be immediate steps to evacuate Indonesian citizens there. We see that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Embassy have made these stages, hopefully the evacuation of Indonesian citizens can run smoothly and safely,” said Sukamta
Meanwhile, Member of Commission I Muhammad Farhan asked the government to also pay attention to the safety of diplomats. He asked the government to act quickly in response to Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine by immediately evacuating Indonesian citizens.
