The Indonesia Post – Authorities in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday temporarily closed the iconic tourist site of the Taj Mahal following a bomb threat, local media reported.
The tourists were asked to leave the location due to the threat of a bomb.
“On Thursday more than 1,000 tourists at the Taj Mahal were asked to vacate the premises after authorities received bomb threats from illegal callers,” read local media reports.
The bomb threat sparked panic among visitors to Agra. Meanwhile, the authorities immediately deployed a police team to the tourist site.
The large white marble mausoleum, built in 1653 by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal, is a magnet for tourists in India. (ojn/bbs)
