Four People Died In Car Bomb Explosion

Yaman, The Indonesia Post – A car bomb targeting the governor’s convoy rocked Yemen’s southern port city of Aden on Sunday and killed at least four people, a Reuters witness and security source said.

Governor Ahmed Lamlas and agriculture minister Salem al-Suqatri survived the blast but at least four people were killed, security sources said.

A Reuters witness saw two charred bodies at the scene.

Lamlas is secretary general of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), a major separatist group competing with the Saudi-backed government for control of Aden and the wider southern region of Yemen.

Suqatri is also a member of the United Arab Emirates-backed STC.

The government and the STC are allies under a coalition led by Saudi Arabia that has been battling the Iran-aligned Houthi movement.

Instability in the south complicates United Nations-led peace efforts.

The military alliance intervened in Yemen in March 2015, months after the Houthis ousted the internationally recognized government from the capital Sanaa.

The government is based in the south while the Houthis control most of the north. (ojn/bbs)
