Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Chairperson of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, supports the acceleration of the Covid-19 vaccination program for children aged 6-11 years, so that parents immediately take their children to vaccinate.
“The House of Representatives appreciates the government for starting the vaccination program for children aged 6-11 years. The implementation of this program is faster than the target because vaccination for children 6-11 years old is planned to start in early 2022,” said Puan in her statement in Jakarta, Wednesday.
She said this was related to the vaccination program for children 6-11 years old, which was carried out by the government after the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) issued a drug use permit for the Sinovac brand vaccine in early November.
The Sinovac vaccine has 65.3 percent efficacy for children aged 6-11 years and is targeted to be given to 26.7 million children.
Puan hopes that BPOM will also immediately issue an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for Sinopharm and Pfizer brand vaccines so that the vaccine dose will be higher so that more children aged 6-11 years will receive the vaccine.
She encouraged agencies together with various elements of the nation to help with the vaccination program so that the implementation of vaccines for children 6-11 years old could quickly reach the target.
Puan gave an example as the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) did, which carried out COVID-19 vaccinations for children aged 6-11 years in 12 provinces.
“With cooperation and mutual assistance, we hope that the vaccination target for children aged 6-11 years can be quickly realized. Children are also protected from the threat of COVID-19,” she said.
She also asked the public not to be afraid because the vaccine has been tested to be safe for children so that parents immediately bring their children to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
According to her, the vaccine has gone through a series of clinical trials and is confirmed to be safe and useful because it can stimulate children’s immunity to COVID-19.
However, Puan reminded parents of a number of things before bringing their children to vaccinate, namely to make sure their children are in good health before being vaccinated.
“Children should get enough rest, make children sleep early the night before being vaccinated and don’t forget to give children breakfast when they want to be vaccinated. Also convey the clinical history of the child to the vaccination officer,” she said.
In addition, according to her, parents do not need to panic if their child has an AEFI because the side effects that generally occur in children are relatively mild, such as pain at the injection site, swelling, fever, dizziness, lethargy, and these conditions will disappear within 1 hour. -2 days.
