Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – President Joko Widodo carries the mission of establishing dialogue, ending war, and building peace in his planned visit to Ukraine and Russia to meet the leaders of the two countries at the end of June 2022.
The president is scheduled to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kiev, Ukraine, and meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, Russia, after attending the G7 Summit in Germany June 26-28 2022. Jokowi’s meeting with Zelensky and Putin is expected to take place between June 29 and 30, 2022 .
“After Germany, I will visit Ukraine and will meet with President Zelensky. His mission is to invite the President of Ukraine, President Zelensky, to open a space for dialogue in the context of peace,” said the Head of State in his statement regarding the planned visit to four countries namely Germany, Ukraine, Russia. and the United Arab Emirates starting on Sunday (26/6).
President Jokowi said that a meeting with President Zelensky was also held to encourage the establishment of peace between Ukraine and Russia, because the war must be stopped and the food supply chain must be reactivated.
After meeting Zelensky in Kiev, Jokowi will go to Moscow, Russia, to meet Vladimir Putin.
The president will carry out a similar mission in his meeting with Putin, both to open a space for peace dialogue, to push for a ceasefire as soon as possible, to ending the war.
President Jokowi is the first Asian leader to visit Kiev and Moscow since the conflict between the two countries.
Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi in her statement some time ago conveyed President Jokowi’s steps to meet Zelensky and Putin to show Indonesia’s concern for humanitarian issues, as well as contribute to the food crisis due to war.
Foreign Minister Retno emphasized that despite the difficult and complex situation, President Jokowi chose to contribute to overcoming the war between Ukraine and Russia, and did not choose to remain silent. (ojn/bbs)
