President Jokowi pays his respects at the Mahatma Gandhi Samadhi

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – President Joko Widodo together with leaders of other countries visited the Mahatma Gandhi Samadhi, in Rajghat, New Delhi, India, on the sidelines of the G20 India Summit, Sunday.

The activity, which is part of a series of the G20 India Summit, was carried out by the President and other state leaders to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.

Based on information received in Jakarta, President Jokowi arrived at around 09.00 local time (WS). President Jokowi, wearing a blue suit, was welcomed by Indian Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi.

PM Modi also wore a scarf with the G20 India logo at the bottom.

The two state leaders then took a photo together with a background depicting Hriday Kunj, where Mahatma Gandhi lived. Apart from taking photos, PM Modi also gave an explanation about the Kunj Day to President Jokowi.

After that, President Jokowi signed the peace wall which was placed in the leaders lounge with other state leaders. Then, the President and the state leaders who were present walked together towards the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial.

The friendly atmosphere between state leaders was visible on the way to the Mahatma Gandhi Samadhi. President Jokowi walking side by side with Singapore PM Lee Hsien Loong was seen chatting casually on his way.

Upon arrival, state leaders stood around the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial. The President, who stood between PM Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron, then paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi with a bouquet of flowers that had been placed before each of them.

After paying his respects, the President and all the state leaders present then left Rajghat to continue the series of other G20 India Summits which were held at Bharat Mandapam, IECC, Pragati Maidan. (mhn/bbs)
