RI’s 78th Anniversary, Puan invites public to create harmony towards a more advanced Indonesia

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – The Speaker of the Republic of Indonesia House of Representatives (DPR) Puan Maharani invites all people and elements of the nation to create harmony towards a more advanced Indonesia in commemoration of the 78th Indonesian Independence Day at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Thursday.

“More than seven decades, independence is not the final goal,” said Puan in Jakarta, Thursday.

The first woman to serve as chairman of the DPR said that Indonesia’s independence was a long journey in realizing the nation’s aspirations in the midst of global challenges and changes. Therefore, Puan invites all Indonesian people to continue to be enthusiastic.

“The spirit is shared in continuing the struggle and building the nation and collaborating, moving in harmony towards a more advanced Indonesia,” she said.

She added that independence is the greatest gift which is a bridge in reviving the hopes of the nation and state to continue to strengthen the unity and integrity of the nation.

“By interpreting independence, the DPR is committed to continuing to move forward, maintaining the integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia,” said Puan.

Furthermore, the grandson of the Indonesian Proclaimer and the first President of the Republic of Indonesia, Soekarno, said that the DPR would continue to oversee Government policies to ensure that the Indonesian people enjoyed true independence. According to Puan, there are still various challenges that must be faced by working together.

“If in the past we had to fight for independence from the colonialists, today our struggle is to ensure that all Indonesian people can prosper independently. The state must be able to provide independence for its people so they can live properly, be independent at work, free to pursue education, free to healthy life, freedom in work, and freedom to speak. Of course, by upholding the norms adopted by the Indonesian people,” she said.

Not only that, she continued, the Indonesian people must also be able to feel freedom in justice, including independence to determine Indonesia’s future leaders.

“To create independence in all fields, it also requires the participation of the people. So, let us work together to practice Pancasila as the guiding star of this nation, ensuring that Indonesia will always be great, both before, now and in the future,” said Puan .

The ceremony for the 78th Indonesian Independence Day at the Merdeka Palace, Thursday, led by President Joko Widodo, was attended by officials, state figures, and people from various walks of life who wore traditional clothes.

The excitement of the 78th Indonesian Independence Day Commemoration Ceremony was also seen from the invited guests who wore traditional clothing from various regions. There are those who wear traditional clothes from Bali, Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, to Papua.

Puan was present wearing traditional Salu clothes from Bolaang Mongondow, North Sulawesi, black with golden yellow ornaments and decorations. Puan’s graceful appearance is complemented by accessories in the form of five pieces of edit on her bun.

The Salu dress worn by Puan consists of an upper part and a lower skirt, complemented by Hamunse and Madapung, golden accessories. Hamunse is placed on the chest and Madapung is the cover for Hamunse. Puan’s appearance was complemented by the traditional Kote-kote and edit necklaces and rampega, accessories on the head.

Puan wears traditional clothes that are commonly used by boki or empresses and Bolaang Mongondow nobles. These traditional clothes are generally worn for royal activities and other matters related to state ceremonies, such as coronation ceremonies, receiving royal guests, and other activities related to the kingdom.
