Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Chairman of the Indonesian Parliament Dr. (H. C.) Puan Maharani strongly condemns the Israeli attacks on Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip. As a result of the attack, hundreds of people were reported dead and hundreds of others were injured.
“We condemn the attacks that were carried out when Palestinians prayed for the holy month of Ramadan and also during the Eid al-Fitr celebration, thus disrupting the series of prayers of Palestinian Muslims,” said Puan in a release received by Parliament.
Israeli attacks and violence began with the expulsion of Palestinians from Sheik Jarrah, attacks on Palestinians at the Al Aqsa Mosque compound, and attacks on civilians in the Gaza strip, and acts of violence in the West Bank. Therefore, Puan invites all parties to call for an end to Israeli attacks on Palestine.
Moreover, the Israeli attacks on Palestine were carried out in the holy month of Ramadan, the atmosphere of Eid Al-Fitr, and in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Stop the Israeli attack on Palestine and we call for assistance to the Palestinian people, including priority assistance for the Covid-19 vaccine and various medical devices,” said Puan.
Furthermore, the PDI-Perjuangan politician conveyed that this human tragedy must become a momentum to restart a comprehensive and inclusive peace process, in accordance with international law, UN resolutions, and international parameters and consensus. According to Puan, Israeli acts of violence have also led to increased instability in the Middle East.
“It is very unfortunate when the world needs peace and unity to fight against the Covid-19 virus, Palestinians must fight against Israel’s annexation,” said the former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK).
Puan also encouraged the Indonesian government to continue its active role in stopping Israeli attacks and providing humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people.
“We urge the international community and the United Nations to ease tensions and help Palestinians who are victims in the occupied Palestinian territories,” concluded the legislator for the Central Java electoral district. (jek/bbs)
