The capital of Kiev and a number of cities in Ukraine under Russian attack

Kiev, The Indonesia Post – The Ukrainian capital Kiev and other cities Lviv, Ternopil and Dnipro were shelled by Russia on Monday after they accused Ukraine of orchestrating a massive explosion that destroyed the main bridge connecting Russia and Crimea.

The public broadcaster Suspilne, citing emergency services, said there were deaths and injuries in Kiev, without providing further information on the death toll.

“There were a number of explosions in the Shevchenskivskyi district – in the center of the capital,” Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko Klitschko said on Telegram. “More information later.”

Reuters reporters saw a large wagon at one of the intersections in the city center and nearby cars were crushed.

Explosions were also reported in the cities of Lviv, Ternopil and Zhytomyr in western Ukraine and in the city of Dnipro in central Ukraine.

Russia suffered setbacks in Kiev in the face of fierce resistance backed by Western weapons.

Since then Moscow and its proxies have focused on the south and Donbas, an eastern region consisting of Luhansk and Donetsk.

They deployed large amounts of artillery on some of the worst battlefields in Europe since World War II. (mhn/bbs)
