Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi ordered Indonesian Ambassador to Turkey Lalu Muhamad Iqbal to have a temporary office in Adana, one of the cities affected by the earthquake in Turkey.
The order was conveyed by Foreign Minister Retno via telephone line on Friday (10/2), and Ambassador Iqbal will have an office in Adana starting Saturday local time.
“There are two main tasks (in Adana), firstly to coordinate the plan for the arrival of four humanitarian planes from the Indonesian government that will carry humanitarian teams and logistical assistance, secondly to continue efforts to protect Indonesian citizens who are still in earthquake-affected areas, both logistical assistance and requests. only for evacuation,” said Iqbal in a written statement from the Indonesian Embassy in Ankara on Saturday.
The Indonesian Embassy in Ankara continues to coordinate with the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for humanitarian missions in Turkey.
The Indonesian government sent four humanitarian aid planes to help Turkey after the earthquake.
The first group will arrive on 12 February 2023 using two B-737-500 military aircraft and 1 Hercules C-130 aircraft.
The two aircraft will transport 47 Medium Urban SAR INASAR Teams from the National SAR Agency (BASARNAS) along with equipment and logistical assistance from the Ministry of Defence.
The second group will arrive on 14 February 2023 using Garuda Indonesia’s Airbus A 330-300 aircraft.
The second group brought the Emergency Medical Team (EMT) which was coordinated by the Ministry of Health and consisted of various elements including teams from the TNI, Polri and Muhammadiyah Health.
Apart from bringing medical personnel, the second group will also carry 35 tons of humanitarian aid coordinated by BNPB.
The 35 tons of humanitarian assistance included 200 generators, a field hospital, refugee tents, blankets and various other items that were prepared by BNPB according to a list of needs submitted by the Turkish authorities.
Meanwhile, the third group is expected to arrive on February 19, 2023 using an Airbus A 330-300 aircraft owned by Garuda Indonesia airline and will carry 35 tons of cargo of humanitarian logistical assistance.
“According to the direction of the Turkish side, Adana will be the debarkation point for all humanitarian aid mission flights from the Indonesian government,” said Iqbal. (mhn/bbs)
