TNI Commander: Covid handling in South Sumatra deserves to be followed

//Stable economy and vigilance against COVID remains maximum

Jakarta, TheIndonesiaPost – The act of South Sumatra Governor H Herman Deru to continue to encourage economic stability in South Sumatra amid the covid-19 pandemic, seems to bear fruit. Even today, the record of growth in South Sumatra is still the highest on the island of Sumatra. Where in the first quarter of 2020, economic growth in South Sumatra was known to be 4.98 percent.

Seeing the condition of economic growth in South Sumatra, the Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) Marshal Dr. Hadi Tjahjanto gave his appreciation.

According to him, the achievement of good economic growth will certainly have a good impact on regional development. Also included in efforts to deal with COVID-19. Because with a good economy, efforts to reduce the spread of the epidemic transmission will be lighter.

“South Sumatra is recorded as the region with the highest economic growth rate on the island of Sumatra, even higher than the national level. This is good hope for us, especially in the midst of a pandemic,” said Hadi while attending the Coordination Meeting on the Coordination of the 19th Coordination Handling in Palembang’s Griya Agung, Friday ‘ at (24/7).

Moreover, continued Hadi, while still focusing on maintaining economic stability, the vigilance of the Regional Government of South Sumatra in collaboration with the TNI and Police (Polri) was also prevented from preventing Covid-19.

“I admit that economic achievements are very good, but the vigilance of covid-19 does not decrease. The handling of co-19 in South Sumatra is clearly visible. This is exemplary,” he said.

Not only that, he also praised the group’s efforts in handling covid-19 in South Sumatra. Where he considered, the steps taken by the South Sumatra covid-19 handling task force were in line with the national task force.

“I also appreciate the task force’s steps in suppressing the occurrence of new cases of Covid-19 by implementing Tracking, Test, and Treatment (3T). That was done very well,” he explained.

It also includes the activation of COVID-prevented villages from COVID-19 and alert villages. At present, thousands of villages prevented from being deterred, and the standby village in South Sumatra has been running.

“What is being carried out at the center also takes place here. We do have to approach the community using local wisdom. The approach must be optimized starting from the neighbor (RT) level,” he explained.

He further said, currently the government together with the TNI and Polri are concentrating on improving the discipline of health protocols to the community. Especially for the eight regions that are currently in the spotlight of the government.

“We are still concentrating in the eight regions such as East Java, West Java, DKI Jakarta, Central Java, North Sumatra, South Sulawesi, South Kalimantan, Papua,” he added.

South Sumatra itself is not included in the category of provinces that received special attention from the central government given the high recovery rate in South Sumatra.

“South Sumatra is not included in the 8 provinces. Because the number of recover patients in South Sumatra is also quite high. For this reason, I hope that collaboration with the public, leaders, academics and others will be increased so that the handling efforts can be faster,” he added.

Meanwhile, South Sumatra Governor H Herman Deru said, South Sumatra was indeed recorded as the province with the highest economic growth rate on the island of Sumatra. This is inseparable from the consistency of all parties who are still productive even in the midst of a pandemic by continuing to implement health protocols.

“The economic growth was 4.98 percent. Then the poverty rate was a bit good because of the new poverty, the impact of this pandemic was 12.66 percent. Then the unemployment rate was 3.86 percent. For our inflation rate was very low at 1.13 percent,” explained Herman Deru.

While in the effort to deal with Covid-19, he continued, a number of innovations were being carried out by his staff. (jekk/rel)
