Governor Herman Deru Urges KDEKS to Strengthen Strategic Role in Developing South Sumatra’s Islamic Economy and Finance

Palembang, The Indonesia Post – South Sumatra Governor H. Herman Deru welcomed an audience with the Regional Committee for Sharia Economy and Finance (KDEKS) at the Governor’s Office on Thursday (Sept. 18, 2025). The meeting marked an important momentum to reaffirm KDEKS’ role in fostering the growth of the sharia economic and financial ecosystem in the province, while also serving as a forum for dialogue and collaboration.

Governor Deru expressed appreciation for KDEKS’ presence and stressed the importance of synergy between local government and sharia financial institutions. He noted that South Sumatra holds significant potential for sharia-based economic development, supported by agriculture, MSMEs, and the growing halal tourism sector.

Deru also recalled that KDEKS was the first such body established in South Sumatra, with the spirit of accelerating sharia economic growth in the region.

“KDEKS was the first to be formed in South Sumatra. At that time, the spirit was urgency, which is why it was immediately filled with competent human resources. My suggestion now is that we rebuild its organizational structure with a new management decree,” he said.

The event was also attended by South Sumatra BPKAD Head Yossi Hervandi, Acting Head of General Affairs and Equipment Darmayanti, as well as several other provincial officials. (mhn/ril)
