Palembang, The Indonesia Post – The Governor of South Sumatra, Herman Deru attended the Dharma Santi activity in the framework of the Holy Day of Nyepi, Saka New Year 1948 (Tilem Kesanga) in 2026 which was held at the Sriwijaya Temple, Thursday (2/4/2026).
The Governor’s presence is a concrete manifestation of the South Sumatra Provincial Government’s support for diversity and harmonious religious life in society.
In a family atmosphere, Dharma Santi becomes an important momentum to strengthen ties and strengthen the values of tolerance between religious communities.
In his remarks, Herman Deru expressed his joy and pride at being present with the community during this moment of togetherness. He emphasized that South Sumatra, rich in ethnicity, culture, and religion, is able to maintain a conducive regional environment and is known as a “zero-conflict” region.
“This is our collective strength. Existing diversity is actually a solution for creating peace. We should be proud that our customs and culture, including Balinese customs in South Sumatra, remain pristine,” he said.
Furthermore, the Governor stated that the Nyepi celebration is not only a sacred moment for Hindus, but also a reminder for all people to engage in self-reflection, maintain peace, and strengthen unity.
Meanwhile, the Supervisor of the Balinese Traditional Association of South Sumatra, I Gusti Bagus Suryanegara, explained that Dharma Santi is a series of Nyepi Day celebrations which contain the meaning of maintaining harmony in human relations with God, fellow humans, and nature.
On that occasion, the Governor also inaugurated the supervisors and administrators of the South Sumatra Balinese Traditional Association for the 2025–2028 period, with I Made Sutama as the elected chairman.
Also in attendance were South Sumatra Police Chief Shandi Nugroho, South Sumatra High Prosecutor Ketut Sumedana, Palembang Mayor Ratu Dewa, South Sumatra Ministry of Religious Affairs Regional Office Head Syafitri Irwan, Banyuasin Regional Secretary Erwin Ibrahim, and other officials and members of the public.
