Inspecting the Fire Site in Tanjung Dalam, the Governor of South Sumatra Ensures Optimal Public Services

Palembang, The Indonesia Post – South Sumatra Governor H. Herman Deru directly inspected the location of the community oil well fire in the PT Hindoli Cultivation Rights (HGU) area, Tanjung Dalam Village, Keluang District, Musi Banyuasin Regency (Muba), Friday (3/4/2026).

The fire occurred during illegal oil well activity on the company’s HGU land. The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday (March 31, 2026) at around 8:00 PM WIB. The fire is suspected to have originated from one of the oil wells on the cliff and then spread to a nearby crude oil storage facility.

The flames quickly spread, following the oil flow to the bottom of the cliff. As a result, several nearby facilities were affected, including operational vehicles and local shops.

Responding to the incident, Herman Deru emphasized the importance of building mutually beneficial relationships between the company and the surrounding community. He stated that this incident should serve as a basis for joint evaluation for future planning.

He believes there needs to be a temporary restriction on oil well activity by communities in affected areas while a more comprehensive solution is prepared. One option is a business-to-business (B-to-B) partnership scheme, ensuring companies are not disadvantaged and communities continue to have business opportunities.

The Governor also emphasized that this incident provides an opportunity to reassess the affected land area and community activities suspected of lacking official permits. He stated that the Muba Regent’s proposal was considered a solution, but needed to be reinforced with a clear regulatory framework, given the area’s potential for foreign investment (PMA).

In addition to inspecting the fire area, Herman Deru ensured that the surrounding community remained well-served. He stated that the company had provided adequate facilities for 92 homes near PT Hindoli.

The government also ensures optimal access to education and healthcare services. Coordination with the Muba Health Office, including with BPJS services, is said to remain well-maintained.

During the visit, the Governor also visited the Tanjung Dalam Education Foundation School and the local community health clinic. He also performed Friday prayers at the Al Muhajirin Mosque in Tanjung Dalam Village. (mhn/ril)
