Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – The association of meat traders and entrepreneurs said that the stock of meat in the market was safe and available until the fasting moments of Ramadan and Eid at varying prices.
Chairperson of the SME and Household-Scale Meat Entrepreneurs Association (Aspedata Indonesia) Diana Dewi in a press statement received in Jakarta, Thursday, confirmed that the distribution of meat to a number of markets had been going well, which was supplied by PT Berdikari and PT Suri.
“The stock of meat until fasting and Eid al-Fitr is safe. The price is stable and availability in the market is always there,” said Diana.
Diana admits that the price of meat on the market today is indeed high. This, he said, was due to high international meat prices, both from Australia and from other countries.
“The increase ahead of the holiday is indeed momentum. Moreover, international prices are also high. But not lacking. Yesterday, market traders were only worried about high prices, they couldn’t sell. Plus, when approaching Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr, there are many overdrafts or seasonal traders. There is a kind of psychology moment,” she said.
Chairman of the Association of Indonesian Animal Protein Entrepreneurs (APPHI) Ahmad Fahmi said that dozens of shops that are part of his current membership continue to provide meat which is sold at a price of Rp. 88 thousand to Rp. 105 thousand. Meat at this price is frozen meat that has been chopped.
“All butcher shops in Jabodetabek and other regions are already selling meat. We even sell frozen meat for Rp. 88 thousand and Rp. 105 thousand in ready-to-cook cuts,” he said.
Chairman of the Indonesian Meat Traders Association (APDI) Achyat said that meat needs were well available in traditional markets, although some traders went on strike. According to him, currently market activity has returned to normal. (mhn/bbs)
