China responds to Australia’s criticism of Ukraine crisis

Beijing, The Indonesia Post – China has responded to Australia’s criticism of not being silent about the conflict in Ukraine.

Chinese Foreign Ministry (MFA) spokesman Wang Wenbin in Beijing on Monday urged Australia to stop making statements that could escalate tensions in Ukraine.

“It is immoral and dangerous to seek political gain by encouraging confrontation,” he told a regular press briefing.

Previously, Australia had evacuated its embassy staff in Kiev because the situation on the Russia-Ukraine border was heating up.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison called on China not to remain silent about the crisis.

According to Wang, the Chinese Embassy in Ukraine is still operating normally.

The MFA and the Chinese Embassy will continue to monitor Chinese citizens and institutions in Ukraine, including providing consular services, protecting safety, and fulfilling their rights.

Beijing also called on all parties to think rationally and refrain from worsening the situation in Ukraine.

“In dealing with issues in Ukraine, we should all return to the Minsk II agreement which is the basis of a political document that is recognized by all parties and must be carried out seriously,” Wang said. (mhn/bbs)
