China expels US warships in the South China Sea

Beijing, The Indonesia Post – China’s military says it has repelled a US destroyer that illegally entered the waters around the Paracel Islands in the South China Sea.

In a statement on Thursday, the Chinese military said that without the approval of the Chinese government, the Milius guided-missile destroyer entered China’s territorial waters illegally.

China’s military also says the ship disturbs peace and stability in the busy waterway.

“The military forces will be on high alert at all times and take all necessary measures to resolutely safeguard national sovereignty and security, as well as peace and stability in the South China Sea,” said Tian Junli, spokesman for China’s South China Sea Command.

Tensions between the US and China have increased in the region.

Washington has been supporting its allies in the Asia-Pacific to counter Beijing’s influence and recognition of several territorial waters in the South China Sea and in the Taiwan Strait. (mhn/bbs)
