Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – More than 12 million children in the United States (US) have tested positive for COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, according to a new report by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the Children’s Hospital Association.
A total of 12,042,870 cases of COVID-19 in children had been reported across the country as of February 3, and children represented 18.9 percent of all confirmed cases, according to the report published on Monday (7/2) evening local time.
The number of COVID-19 cases among children has surged dramatically across the US during the Omicron variant.
Nearly 4.2 million cases of COVID-19 in children have been reported since early January. For the week ended February 3, an additional nearly 632,000 cases of COVID-19 in children were reported in the country, according to the report.
More than 1.4 million cases of COVID-19 in children have been reported in the past two weeks.
This marks the 26th week in a row that child COVID-19 cases in the US have crossed the 100,000 mark. Since the first week of September, there have been an additional nearly 7 million cases in children, according to the AAP. (mhn/bbs)
