PUPR Ministry to renovate JCC ahead of ASEAN Plus Summit

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) is preparing to revitalize the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), which will host the 2023 ASEAN Plus Summit in Jakarta in September.

The ministry’s spokesperson, Endra S. Atmawidjaja, said on Friday that the revitalization would begin in the next week or two.

“We are only going to change JCC because it will be used as the venue for the ASEAN Plus Summit,” he said.

“We only have four months to renovate the building, fix the landscape, and prepare the parking space for VVIPs,” he added.

The JCC revitalization will be undertaken to support the ASEAN Plus Summit, which will be attended not only by members but also by partners of the bloc.

Earlier, the Jakarta provincial government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and related institutions conducted preparations to ensure the successful hosting of the summit.

Acting governor of Jakarta, Heru Budi Hartono, said that his administration is planning to enliven the event and welcome delegations in Jakarta with the help of school children.

The provincial government has also carried out several preparations for the summit, such as mutual assistance and cross-sectoral cooperation.

The cooperation has involved the fixing of roads and lighting of street lamps by the Highways (Bina Marga) Office and traffic control by the Transportation Office.

Additionally, the Health Office has prepared doctors at the lodging locations, while the Education Office has prepared school children to welcome delegations from various countries.

Cecep Herawan, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, informed that delegates from 36 countries and several international organizations will attend the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM)/Post Ministerial Meetings (PMC).

Meanwhile, the ASEAN Plus Summit will be attended by delegates from 26 countries and international organizations.

Thus, coordination with various parties is necessary to make the international-level event a success, Herawan said. (mhn/bbs)
