Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Chair of the ASEAN-Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC) Arsjad Rasjid said Indonesia is focused on raising opportunities for ASEAN cooperation to develop the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem.
Arsjad, after the opening of the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (ABIS) in Jakarta, Sunday, said that the development of the electric vehicle ecosystem was in line with ASEAN’s priorities in developing sustainable energy, including energy transition, energy efficiency and carbon credits.
“That’s why Indonesia raised the issue of the electric vehicle ecosystem. This is what we are pushing for. Friends from Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, all said, OK, this is the time because so far we have only competed. In fact, now this is not competition, but we have to collaborate creating complimentary values (complementary values),” he said.
Not only about sustainable energy development, ASEAN collaboration encouraged through Indonesia’s Chairmanship also focuses on digital transformation in all sectors.
Digital transformation is considered important because it will help the development of the MSME sector, not only in Indonesia, but also throughout ASEAN.
Arsjad continued, other opportunities that have also opened up in the centrality of ASEAN, including in the health and food sectors.
He said, along with the publication of the Health Omnibus Law in Indonesia, other countries in ASEAN also welcomed it because it was hoped that it would help support the development of the health industry in the region.
In the field of food security, it is also hoped that ASEAN collaboration will be able to support this region to unite and start filling each other’s shortcomings.
“So far we have never done trade between us, thinking more about outside (ASEAN). Now after the pandemic, we have realized that it is time for us to trade between us, fill the gaps between us, if possible, continue to strengthen food security, so that we can enter the global supply chain,” said the Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
