Jokowi Has Not Yet Decided to Open a School in the Middle of Pandemic

Jakarta, TheIndonesiaPost – President Joko Widodo said that he had not yet decided to open a school during the co-19 pandemic.

This was said by Jokowi in front of eight interfaith leaders who were present at the State Palace, Jakarta, Tuesday (2/6). Among these; Helmy Faishal Zaini (PBNU), Abdul Mu’ti (PP Muhammadyah), Muhyiddin Junaidi (MUI), Gomar Gultom (PGI), Cardinal Ignatius Suharyo (KWI), Wisnu Tenaya (PHDI), Arief Harsono (Permabudhi), and Xs Budi Suharto Santoso Tanuwibowo (Matakin).

“For the reopening of schools and Islamic boarding schools, there has been no decision. We must be careful of the fate of our 54 million students,” Jokowi was quoted as saying by Cable News Network Indonesia.

Jokowi said that the government is currently focusing on preparing the community to reopen economic activities and worship gradually towards the new normal life.

“There are 120 districts / cities that have no cases at all. In this area normal life can take place,” he said.

The former mayor of Solo expressed his gratitude because the public did not panic during the Corona pandemic. According to Jokowi, the government is indeed very careful in conveying various corona treatments to the public. Because from expert testimony, panic can reduce 50 percent immunity.

“So it’s not that the government is not serious, but rather because of that caution. Just look at it, even a big country like the USA has experienced prolonged riots,” Jokowi said. (ojan/bbs)
